Temporary position for the following dates:
- Upward Bound Summer Academy begins Monday, June 3rd -Thursday, June 27th
- The Upward Bound Summer Academy teaching schedule will be as follows:
- Monday June 3rd – Thursday, June 6th
- Monday, June 10th – Thursday, June 13th
- Monday June 17th, -Thursday, June 20th
- Monday June 24th, Thursday, June 27th
Annual Salary:
$500 per course/section taught; DOE
Description:
Upward Bound is a program designed to encourage high school students to develop the academic skills and motivation necessary for success in post-secondary education. The participating Upward Bound students will live on campus during the five week program and attend intensive academic courses and personal developmental activities.
Qualifications and Experience Needed:
- Bachelor’s Degree required in the discipline being taught, Master’s Degree preferred
- Must be a certified teacher K-12 or an experienced college faculty member.
- Demonstrates experience as a leader and working as a member of a team
- Demonstrates ability to develop an engaging curriculum, lesson plans, and deliver content in exciting and multidisciplinary manner; use of technology encouraged
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Previous experience working with high school students preferred
- Demonstrates sensitivity to needs of economically/educationally disadvantaged youth
- Preference to individuals who have backgrounds similar to the target population
- Must be able to work effectively with learners who need encouragement and positive reinforcement.
Job Duties:
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Develop a course syllabus and submit to the Upward Bound Academic Coordinator two weeks prior to the Summer Academy
- Prepare and administer assignments based on subject content to be covered
- Assess each student’s academic need and progress
- Provide regular student evaluations
- Attend In-Service and all staff meetings
- Incorporate interactive classroom demonstrations through visual aids and other activities
- Provide an engaging educational experience for high school students
- Incorporate STEM and ACT prep into curriculum
Other duties as assigned by the Upward Bound Director and/or Academic Coordinator
